Blur

As many of you guys know I had to serve a mandatory military service in South Korea for two years. Having to do the military service in such a restricted environment gave me enough time to look back through my life and think about the blurred future that comes ahead.

I painted this series of paintings Blur in the last vacation while I was still serving for the army. This painting resembles a mixture of my feelings and confusion inspired on the pattern on my military uniform. When you give a close up to the artwork, it's just a mixture of paint. But looked from the distance it creates its own vivid form. Like this series of paintings 'Blur' is the final piece of my personal emotions of the last 2 years of military service.

많은 분들이 아시듯 저는 한국에서 2년동안의 군생활을 했습니다. 손발이 묶여버린듯한 억압된 환경은 내가 걸어온 길, 그리고 불확실하고 희미한(blur)한 미래에 대해 다시 돌아 볼 수 있는 충분한 시간이었습니다.
Blur 페인팅 시리즈는 군대에서 마지막 휴가를 나왔을때 작업을 하였습니다. 이 페인팅은 의미없이 뒤썪인 본인의 복잡한 감정을 군복의 패턴문양에서 영감을 받았습니다. 가까이서 작품을 보면 단지 뒤썪인 물감처럼 보이지만 거리를 두고 보면 확실한 형태가 나옵니다. 마치 제 군생활이 시작할땐 복잡하고 불확실하게 느껴졌지만 마지막 휴가에서 돌아보았을땐 내가 걸어온 군생활에서 뭔가 더 확실한 감정과 의미를 느꼈듯이...
